THYROID DISORDER MANAGEMENT

HYPOTHYROIDISM

Are you are feeling dull, tired, fatigued, irritable, gaining weight without any reasons, feeling too cold, having hair fall. If you are experiencing any or many of these symptoms, you should get your thyroid checked.

The Thyroid is an endocrine gland situated in the front of the neck. It secretes hormones called T3 and T4 in the blood, which regulate the metabolism of the body. It is like a small internal clock of the body. The Thyroid gland decides the speed with which your heart beats, the intestine’s movement, hair growth rate, and even the monthly menstrual cycle.

Hypothyroidism is when your body does not produce enough thyroid hormone.

Treatment

Levothyroxine ( T4 ) is given in tablet form. T4 given in tablet form gets converted to T3 in the body, and eventually, the TSH normalises. Once started, the tablet should not be discontinued without consulting us.

Pregnancy

Book an appointment as soon as you get to know that you are pregnant. Pregnancy demands a higher dose of thyroxine as the baby cannot produce its own thyroid hormone for the first 3 months and is dependant on the mother for the same. Not treating Hypothyroidism in pregnancy can increase spotting, increase blood pressure, and occasionally deliver early delivery.
